Rules for A Better Way to Live

I really liked these rules for a better living by Og Mandino they are

1.      Count your blessings. Once you realize how valuable you are and how much you have, the smiles will return. The Sun will break out, the music will play and you will be able to move forward toward the life that God has intended for you….. with grace, strength, courage and confidence.
2.      Today and every day, deliver more than you are getting paid for. The victory of success will be half won when you learn the secret of putting more than is expected, in all that you do. Exercise your privilege to go the extra mile and enjoy the rewards you receive. You deserve them!
3.      Whenever you make a mistake or get knocked down by life, don’t look back at it too long. Your capacity for occasional blunders is inseparable from your capacity to reach your goals. No one wins them all, and your failures, when they happen, are just part of your growth. How will you know your limits without an occasional failure? Never quit. Persist. Your turn will come.
4.      Always reward your long hours of labour & toil in the very best way, surrounded by your family. Nurture their love carefully, remembering that your children need role models, not critics. Remember your children’s little eyes are watching you day & night, their ears are listening to all you say. Your own progress will hasten when you constantly strive to present your best side to your children. Even if you fail in the eyes of the world, if you have a loving family, you are a success.
5.      Build this day and every day on a foundation of pleasant thoughts. Remind yourself that you are a creature of God and have the power to achieve any dream by lifting your thoughts. Good thoughts bear good fruits. Never consider defeat or have negative thoughts. Let the vision in your heart be in your life’s blueprint. Smile!
6.      Let your actions always speak for you. Do not boast about your false pride. It is easy to fall into the trap of believing, after a few successes that you possess some special & unique qualities, and if you reflect that attitude in your behavior toward others, it can seriously hurt your progress. Nothing can harm you more than your arrogance.
7.      Each day is a special gift from God. You must never allow the pains, hurdles and handicaps of the moment to poison your attitude and plans for yourself and your future. You can never win when you wear the ugly coat of self-pity. You have two feet to take you wherever you want to go, eyes to see the sunset’s glow, ears to hear what you would want to know. You have been really blessed by God. The world is yours.
8.      Time is precious. Never clutter your days or nights with so many menial and unimportant things, that you have no time to face a real challenge when it comes. A day merely survived is no cause for celebration. You are not here to fritter away your precious hours when you have the ability to accomplish so much by making slight change in your routine. We have many active, busy people doing insignificant chores that they do not understand what is happening in their lives.
9.      Live this day as if it will be your last day. Forget yesterday’s defeats and ignore the problems of tomorrow. Make today as the best day of your year. If yesterday is a cancelled cheque and tomorrow is a promissory note, then today is all you have in the form of cash. If you don’t spend it wisely, you have to blame only yourself for the same. Time makes no return trip for your benefit.
10.  Beginning today, treat everyone you meet, friend or foe, loved one or stranger, with all the care and kindness, and understanding and love that you can muster; and do it with no expectation of any reward. Your life will never be the same again.
11.  Laugh at yourself and at life. This is a remedy, a miracle drug,  that will ease your pain, cure your depression, and help you put in perspective that seemingly terrible defeat of the moment. Banish tension and concern and worry with laughter at your predicaments, thus freeing your mind to think clearly the solution that is certain to come.
12.  Never neglect the little things, minute details. Never skip that extra effort, that word of praise or thanks. You can never do your best if you start cutting corners and shirking away from responsibilities.
13.  Welcome every morning with a smile and grateful to God for another opportunity to improve and finish remaining tasks. Be a self starter. Let your first hour set the theme of success, with meditation & exercise, listening to birds chirping and positive action plan for the day.
14.  Set long term goals and then set goals for each day. Remember that Rome was not built in a day. Be patient. Never allow your day to become so cluttered that you neglect your most important goal- to do the best you can this day and rest satisfied with what you have accomplished. Let some of your goals give you joy, smiles and peace. These daily goals are steps along the path toward the great dream you hold secretly in your heart.
15.  Never allow anyone to cast a spell of gloom and defeat on you. Nothing external can have any power on you unless you permit it. Guard your fragile life from people who need no brains or character in finding faults in you. Ignore people who are your detractors or critics who are envious of you, your skills, your work and your way of life.
16.  Search for the seed of good in every adversity. You will learn things in adversity that you would have never discovered without trouble in life.  He who has never made any mistake, has never known the thrill of turning apparent loss into a gain. This is the principle of making assets out of liabilities.
17.  Realize that true happiness lies within you. Waste no time and effort in searching joy, peace and contentment in the world outside. Remember that there is no happiness in having or getting, but only in giving. Reach out to others, share, and smile. Happiness is a perfume you cannot pour on others without dropping a few drops on yourself.

Facebook

Facebook has been a great blessing to me. Through FB I am able to reconnect with people whom I felt I would never be able to get in touch with. For instance my classmates Sanjiv Mehendale ,  Rajneesh Khanna, Sanjay Bata who is now in Alberta somewhere near North Pole, Damanyati,Sumita,Mridula,Vasant, my IPCL school classmates. The list is endless. My wife Beena also could manage to trace one of her closest friend Anu Mishra who was her room mate during her hostel days at MSU. Thanks Facebook

Selection Trials

We had the Baroda city  Badminton team selections. All our students performed excellently and majority of them have got selected. Jayesh Bhalawala conducted the selection trials.

Chetan Bhagat -I agree with this

"Life is one of those races in nursery school where you have to run with a marble in a spoon kept in your mouth. If the marble falls, there is no point coming first. Same is with life where health and relationships are the marble. Your striving is only worth it if there is harmony in your life. Else, you may achieve the success, but this spark, this feeling of being excited and alive, will start to die and we become old at heart................

One thing about nurturing the spark - don't take life seriously. Life is not meant to be taken seriously, as we are really temporary here. We are like a pre-paid card with limited validity. If we are lucky, we may last another 50 years. And 50 years is just 2,500 weekends. Do we really need to get so worked up? ............ let us live our life the way we want not the way others want us to ....

We are people, not programmed devices.........":) "Don't be serious, be sincere."!!

Monsoon blues

Yesterday was a wet wet day......this monsoon it has been raining quite heavily , which though is good for solving the water woes .. has been a nightmare for the roads ....from nowhere potholes have appeared , water logging is a common phenomenon , its tough for everyone to commute , I for instance was stranded for 2 hours in my car.....and could reach home slowly as if I were belonging to the "bullock cart" age........I hope in next few years, conditions do improve and so do my travel

Are we Family?

Yesterday my opinion on typical hindi movies was further strengthened when I watched a totally senseless movie “We Are  Family” It was as bitter as the coffee which Karan Johar dishes out in his soap "Coffee with ……."

Nostalgia

Growing up in the  70's and 80's?
We had no seatbelts, no airbags.. Cycling was like a breath of fresh air… No safety helmets, knee pads or elbow pads, with plenty of cardboards between spokes to make it sound like a motorbike…

When thirsty we only drank tap water, bottled water was still a mystery…

We kept busy collecting bits & pieces so we could build all sort of things … and we were fearless on our bicycles even when the brakes failed going downhill…

We were showing off how tough we are, by how high we could climb trees & then jumping down….It was great fun….We could stay out to play for hours, as long as we got back before dark, in time for dinner…

We walked to school, or sometimes we even rode our bicycle.
We had no mobile phones, but we always managed to find each other…. How?

We lost teeth, broke arms & legs, we got cuts and bruises and bloody noses…. nobody complained as we had so much fun, it wasn't anybody's fault, only ours.
We ate everything in sight, cakes, bread, chocolate, ice-cream, sweet sugary drinks, fruits..yet, we stayed skinny by fooling around. And if one of us was lucky to find a 1 litre coca cola bottle we all had a swig from it & guess what? Nobody picked up any germs...

We did not have Play Stations, MP3, Nintendo's, I-Pods, Video games, 99 Cable TV channels, DVD's, Home Cinema, Home Computers, Laptops, Chat-rooms, Internet, etc ...

BUT, we had REAL FRIENDS!!!!

We called on friends to come out to play, never rang the doorbell, just went around the back door…
We played with sticks and stones,  , doctors and nurses, hide and seek, over and over again…

When we failed our exams we were given a second chance by simply repeating the same grade…without visiting psychiatrists, psychologists or counselors…

Such were the days…
We had freedom, success, disappointments and responsibilities. ...
